Lavina A. Burget, 91, Vienna, VA, formerly of Rapid City, died November 6, 2016.
Lavina Augusta was born on 13 January 1925 to Alfred and Isa {McDonald} Brzazowsky at Harrold South Dakota. They moved later that year to a farm near Blunt, South Dakota. She started school at age four at a country school. They moved to the Black Hills in 1933 where she attended school at Piedmont, South Dakota, and graduated from there in 1941.
She attended the National School of Business in Rapid City, South Dakota, and upon graduation worked for the United States Attorney for a few months. She worked again for this firm ten years later. Being only 17, she required special authority to work in civil service. She began work at Fort Meade (4th Cavalry U. S. Army) in August 1942 and retired from Civil Service in 1989. During this time she worked at various bases including the Army Air Corps in Rapid City, SD, U. S. Marines at Klamath Falls, Or,, U. S. Air Force at numerous Air Force bases and the Pentagon, Department of Agriculture in Missoula, Mt. and the VA Hospital at Fort Meade.
Lavina married Marcus Alistair Burget on 2 October 1947 to which two children were born – Sharon K. and Randy R.
Being married to a military man, they lived in various states throughout the United States –Kansas, California, France, Florida, Montana, Texas, Illinois, and Virginia, when Marc retired and they returned to South Dakota.
Lavina is a member of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does and the Grand Lodge having been a secretary for the lodge for five years. She is also a member of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees).
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Howke, her granddaughter Sheryll Rineer, great-grandson Tyce Williamson, her sister Lois Haynes and many nieces and nephews.
Her son, Randy Burget predeceased her in 2001.
A visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 12 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Chapel.
Interment will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.
