Obituary

LaVonne M. Sartorius, 84, of Rapid City, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House.

LaVonne was born on August 5, 1932 in Pine City, MN to Harry LaRoy and Emma Elizabeth (Karas) Haynes. She grew up in Comfrey, MN, graduating from Comfrey High School.

LaVonne married Robert Sartorius in Comfrey on March 5, 1953, soon thereafter, decided to head for California. They stopped briefly to work in Aberdeen before settling down in Rapid City in 1953 where Robert found work as a bricklayer on the construction of missile silos.

Over the course of living in Rapid City, LaVonne worked for Future Vision, Dorothy's, Haggerty's, Family Thrift, Ginny's House of Touquoise and Canyon Lake Senior Citizens Center as the Activities Director. LaVonne continued to volunteer her time with the Meals Program at the Minneluzahan Senior Center until shortly before her death.

Survivors include her children;  Dale (Elizabeth) Sartorius, Linda (Roger) Jones, Wayne (Jenneye) Sartorius and Donald Sartorius (Kim Curtis), 10 grandchildren; Michael Sartorius, Angela (Donnie) Blazer, Jenny (Justin) Wills, Zeke Lastraglio, Serena (Jeremy) Weich, Tara (Stanley) Kozak, Tyler Sartorius, Ruger Sartorius, Bailey Bowers and Mason Sartorius, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and her sisters; Lois Hultgren and Glenice Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1994, her parents, Harry and Emma Haynes, brother, Verne Haynes and sister, Karen Warweg.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Josh Jones officiating.  A private inurnment of her ashes take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Minneluzahan Senior Center and Western South Dakota Senior Meals Program which were so much a part of her life.
