IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lavonne 'Vonnie'
Youngs
November 1, 1937 – May 27, 2025
RAPID CITY - LaVonne A. "Vonnie" Youngs, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Monument Health, surrounded by her loving family.
Vonnie was born on November 1, 1937, in South Dakota, the youngest of nine children to Lewis and Nellie (Peck) Withee. On November 11, 1956, she married the love of her life, Ramon Youngs, in Rapid City. Together, they raised two children, Ron and Kathy.
Vonnie was a devoted partner to Ramon, supporting him wholeheartedly through all of life's adventures—even during a hunting trip while in labor with Ron. She cherished the many road trips they took as a family, sometimes racking up over 100,000 miles a year, simply enjoying the open road and each other's company. With no destination in mind, they'd often end up in places like Casper, WY, just for dinner.
Rapid City was home in every sense of the word for Vonnie. It was where her heart belonged—with her family, her extended Withee relatives, lifelong friends, the Black Hills, and her beloved Westminster Church community. She was an active and faithful member of the church and took great pride in serving as an assistant Deacon. Holidays were especially meaningful to Vonnie, each one celebrated with care, joy, and love.
Vonnie will be remembered for her unwavering love, her generous spirit, and her deep devotion to her family and faith. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon; her parents, Lewis and Nellie; eight siblings, Hazel, Margaret, Bud, Don, Lunelle, Hope, baby Withee and Glen; and great grandson, Trey Prewitt.
Vonnie is survived by her son, Ron (Erin) Youngs; daughter, Kathy (Chuck) Hull, Guernsey, WY; grandchildren: Melissa (Swade) Prewitt, Tasha (Steven) Lambert, Austin Youngs, R. Thaddeus Youngs, Derik (Lee) Youngs; three great grandchildren: Sarina, Stormie and Luna; two great-great grandchildren, Willow and Scarlett; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and other extended family.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Westminster Church (1210 Sioux San Dr.) with Pastor Bob Jacobs officiating.
Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Ramon.
