RAPID CITYLawrence Roy Eggum, 73, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Lawrence was born November 30, 1935, at Sturgis, to Roy and Jessie (Dodson) Eggum. He grew up in Spearfish and graduated from Spearfish High School in 1954. He attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, and served four years in the United States Air Force. He married Brenda Ball of London, England, in 1957. He worked as a Rapid City radio and television announcer for several years, then went in to Chamber of Commerce Management for several years. In 1975 he returned to Rapid City to pursue private business interests. He was owner of The Trailblazer Company, a tourist brochure distribution and display business, until December of 1997. He has been retired since then. Survivors include his wife, Brenda, a son, Curtis, a daughter, Lea Haisch and three grandchildren, John, Michelle and Joshua, all of Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister, Virginia Mueller. Larry was the kindest, gentlest, man we ever knew. The lives of his family and those who knew him were enriched by his wit and wisdom. He is loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 14, at the Chapel of the Whispering Pines at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.
