Lawrence Perry, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on May 5, 2026, at the age of 90. Lawrence was born on January 15, 1936 in Pontiac, Michigan. Later relocating with his family to the Black Hills in 1944, Lawrence lived a full and remarkable life defined by curiosity, hard work, humor, and heart.
While attending the University of South Dakota, Lawrence joined the Army and served in Germany from 1955 to 1958. This experience helped to strengthen his lifelong appreciation for history and culture. After returning home, he and his brother Harry founded Perry Construction, building lasting projects throughout the State of South Dakota that have served many for decades.
Lawrence was a man of many passions. A devoted gardener and rancher, he had a deep love for the land and the animals he cared for. He was also an avid antique collector, treasuring family heirlooms and the stories they held. His mind was endlessly inquisitive—he was well-read, a lover of music, and a lifelong student of history, especially that of his cherished South Dakota.
Those who knew Lawrence will remember his charismatic presence and the rare way he drew people in. His quick wit and sense of humor brought warmth and laughter to every gathering.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Esther Perry; brother Harry and sister-in-law Gloria Perry; sister Gail Clark; and an infant sister Betty. He is survived by his sister Sally and her husband Owen Garnos; brother-in-law Jack Clark; and his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Lawrence’s life was a testament to curiosity, kindness, and connection—the hallmarks of a man who lived richly and loved deeply. His spirit will live on in the gardens he tended, the history he cherished, and the hearts of all who knew him.
