Obituary

RAPID CITY--Lawrence E. Weber, 85, died peacefully in his sleep, on Tuesday January 15, 2013, at his home. He was born on August 27, 1927, to Benjamin and Carrie (Wahl) Weber. He was the older brother to Lester Weber. He grew up in the Wessington Springs area. He married Betty Jo Gross, August 30, 1948 in Lockridge, Iowa. Together they had four children; Lauren, Linda Jo (Larry) Deibert, Kathy (Andy) Smith, and Trudy (Rich) Kuske. They farmed at several locations in the Lane area. They moved to Piedmont, SD in 1963 to work on a dairy. He also worked on a dairy in Nisland for a short time, before moving to Sturgis. He drove a Nash Finch delivery truck, worked at the grain elevator and the Sturgis sale barn. He worked for the Dairy Herd Improvement Assoc. as Inspection Supervisor for 20 years making numerous friends on his many one night stands. Lawrence & Betty then retired and began traveling in their motor home. They traveled to Arizona each winter with stops at their kid's homes on the way back to SD each summer. They upgraded to bigger and bigger motor homes, before ending their trips to make a home in Rapid City. Lawrence faithfully cared for his wife, Betty, through struggles with post-polio syndrome before her death in 2005. They were blessed to have been married for 57 years. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting, fishing, visiting, wood crafts, visiting, going to Linda's band concerts and making close friends. He was always quick with a joke or a story or to lend a helping hand. Lawrence was never without his Holstein cap. Family members who will miss him include his brother Lester, several cousins, nieces and nephews, his 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at a family reunion in July. Memorials can be made to the Rapid City New Horizon Band; 4619 Ridgewood St, Rapid City, SD, 57702.
