Obituary

Leo A. "Bud" Grebner, 92, a proud WWII veteran, of Rapid City, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at a local nursing home.

He was born on February 13, 1923 in a farmhouse near Hereford, SD to William and Mary (Keffeler) Grebner. He spent his summers at the Keffeler Ranch with his Uncle Albert, Aunt Martha, Uncle Leo and Aunt Lois.   He graduated from St. Martins Academy in 1941 and attended St Thomas College and Seminary .

Leo enlisted in the United States Army on January 18, 1945 serving in the Philippines and with the Occupation Force in Japan and was discharged in 1946 as a Tec 4.

He married Michaela Jean Zeller in 1949 in Rapid City.

Leo worked for the Rapid City Implement Company as a parts manager for many years. In 1972 Leo purchased A-1 Bike Repair and operated it until 1997. Leo had many different "winter jobs" retiring from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish in 1986 after being the care taker for many years.

Michaela Jean passed away in 1993 after long term health issues. In 1995 he married Kathryn Herrick-Wiesner in Rapid City.

Leo enjoyed bicycling, woodworking, gardening, singing and fishing, however, his family was his life. Leo was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Rapid City, a life member of Rushmore VFW Post 1273, a singing member of the Golden Oldies and the Joyful Gals and Guys. He was a past member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish and a current member of St. Therese Catholic Parish.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Grebner, Rapid City, his two sons; James (Julie) Grebner of Rapid City and Mark (Brenda Jensen) Grebner, Canton, SD, his daughter, Gerianne (Richard) Dahlquist, Rapid City, step-son John Wiesner, Rapid City, nine grandchildren and two sisters; Lucille Knutson, St Ansger, IA and Dolores Klug, Boise, ID.

Leo is preceded in death by his first wife Michaela Jean, two sons; David and infant Paul, daughter Jane and two infant daughters, Mary and Kathleen plus three brothers and three sisters.

Memorials have been established to St Therese Catholic Church and the Boys Club of Rapid City, outdoor campus fund.

A visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 4:00pm, Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with a Rosary recitation at 4:00pm.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 am, Monday, January 4 at St Therese Catholic Church in Rapid City with Fr. Bill Zandri presiding. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors.
