RAPID CITY | Leonard William Bryant Jr., 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at Vibra Hospital in Thornton, CO. He had suffered from a severe stroke a few weeks prior and unfortunately was not able to make a recovery.
Leonard was born on Jan. 1, 1938, in Salisbury, MD to Leonard and Pauline (Bell ) Bryant Sr. He joined the Air Force after graduating from High School where he traveled extensively. He gave the military 20 years of his life to include a tour in Vietnam. He retired from Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, where he met the love of his life, Rechinda Walker, whom he married. To this union, three children were born.
Leonard had a passion for music and loved to sing and play saxophone. He also spent his free time fixing appliances, mostly television sets for friends, which eventually led to him starting his own business, "Bryant TV Repair".
After retiring at age 65, Len devoted his time to volunteering with the Minneluzahan Senior Citizen Center and the Pennington County Sheriff Office.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Rechinda Bryant; parents, Leonard and Pauline; and his brother, Jerome Jolly.
Leonard is survived by his brother, James Alderman Sr.; and his five children, Leonard Bryant IV, Lena Bryant, Trivina Johnson, Reggie Bryant, and Marlene Bryant.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Leonard will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Knollwood Heights United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sharla McCaskell officiating. Leonard will be laid to rest at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors provided by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard.
