Obituary

RAPID CITY -- Leotta Irene Schurger, 78, Rapid City, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice House. She was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Mitchell, the daughter of Emerson G. and Emily B. (Hintz) McLaughlin. She graduated from high school in Pierre in 1949. Leotta married James Frazee on June 17, 1955, in Pierre. She was employed for a period of 35 years by the First National Bank in Pierre. She was a vice-president at the time of her retirement in 1988. Following retirement they moved to Rapid City. Leotta married Robert Schurger on July 31, 2004, in Rapid City Leotta was a pilot and enjoyed flying her personal airplane. Her hobbies included traveling, reading and history, including compiling a great history of her family dating back to the 17701s. Leotta was the principal caregiver for her sister Sharri after her parents death. She truly cared for her family and friends. She was a very classy lady. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Rapid City. She was also a member of the National Association of Bank Women, the American Business Women's Association and Ninety-Nines Inc. International Organization of Women Pilots. Survivors include her husband, Robert Schurger, Rapid City; two brothers, Leonard L. (Doris) McLaughlin, Walnut Grove, Minn., and Lloyd G. (Judy) McLaughlin, Estes Park, Colo.; one sister, Arlene K. (Richard) Miller, Pierre; a sister-in-law, Teresa; stepchildren, Michael Schurger, Buffalo, Wyo., Maurie (Nancy) Schurger, Box Elder, Kathleen (Don) Strain, White River, and Matthew (Donna) Schurger Windsor, Colo.; 14 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews; nine step grandchildren and many step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond E. McLaughlin; and a sister, Sharri D. McLaughlin. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek presiding. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Black Hills Workshop and the Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice House.
