Obituary

LeRoy John Krier, 93, of Presho, died Saturday, April 23, 2022, at St Martin's Village in Rapid City, where he had resided the past six years.

LeRoy was born June 13, 1928, to Albert and Bertha (Leichtnam) Krier, and spent his entire life in the Presho area until moving to Rapid City in 2015, due to health reasons.

Growing up, LeRoy attended Presho schools and worked on the family farm. He joined the army on March 14, 1951, and was honorably discharged two years later, after serving state-side during the Korean War. He then returned to Presho, where he farmed and ranched with his brother Bob, until his retirement. LeRoy was fond of showing his military-issued supplies that each soldier was given. Kept in a trunk the Army had given him, he shared stories of everything from the food rations to the half-pup tent he carried. He made sure everyone had a P52 can opener (or two) to put on their keyrings.

Throughout his life, LeRoy was a quiet man, a simple man, and a hard worker. In 1985, a waitress at the local café caught his eye, and LeRoy asked her on a date. Three years later, in August 1988, he was united in marriage to DeElda, and they spent the next 33-plus years together enjoying each other's company and taking care of one another.

LeRoy enjoyed visiting, and spending time with family, especially the kids. He liked to tell stories about the hard times growing up, and his experiences in life. He liked his tractors to be green, and enjoyed attending John Deere Days every year in Winner.  He was a licensed pilot and delighted in flying his own airplane. LeRoy enjoyed music, playing games on the computer, and he was always good for repeating the same witty joke.

LeRoy is survived by his wife DeElda and her family, his siblings and their families, and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bertha, brother Bob Krier, and infant sister Dorothy Krier.

A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11:00 am on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Presho. Inurnment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery, with military honors, at a later date.
