LeRoy C. "Steve" Stevens, 77, Rapid City, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Steve was born in Archer, NE on July 7, 1938 to Charles and Lucille (Jensen) Stevens. He grew up in Sioux City, IA and graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA. He found his way eventually to Lakeland, FL, where for 15 years he owned and operated LC Stevens Pools, an upscale pool designer and builder. He joined the United States Air Force in March 1957. During his service he was stationed at many locations around the world ending his long military service at Ellsworth Air Force Base in 1998, retiring as an E6 Tech Sgt. He married Jan Drebenstedt on June 6, 1986 in Northlake, IL. Steve and Jan Honeymooned in the Black Hills and finding this was to be their future home, settled in Rapid City in 1989. The whole family enjoyed tent camping at Center Lake in Custer State Park. He was a dedicated Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, loved animals, frequently rescuing them from the pound. People will remember Steve as a prankster and jokester, loved to make people laugh and was famous for his many contorted facial expressions. Steve deeply loved Jan and his family. He is survived by his wife, Jan, Rapid City, children; Anna Dean, Rossville, GA, Charles "Charlie" Kolb (Suzanne), Travelers Port, SC, Lee Brown (Christy), Sumter, SC, Lori Stevens, Lakeland, FL, Lisa Guingona, Hanahan, SC, Keith Meyer (Summer), Halliday, ND, Jennifer (Todd) Pulis, Hermosa, SD, Eric Meyer (Tracey) Murfreesboro, TN and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sisters; Lois (Lloyd) Rohmiller, Sioux City, IA, Marilyn Wells, Caldwell, ID, Vera Mae (Roger) Dailey, Jefferson, SD and Connie (Larry) Rosenbaum, Elk Point, SD He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sandra Samojeden in 2012, son, Mark Meyer in 2008, a grandson, Layne Meyer in 1997, a brother, Lee Wayne Stevens and a brother in law, Dorman Wells. A memorial will be established to the Black Hills Humane Society. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept 8, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, Sept 9 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home followed by interment at the Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors.
