Obituary

Rapid City, SD - Lester Loyd Millam , 93, passed away at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Underwood, SD, on Oct. 22, 2011. Les was born August 14, 1918, in Milaca, MN to Arthur and Mabel Millam, one of eleven children. Les met his beautiful bride, Clarice Brink and they joined their new journey on June 11, 1941, in Miles City, MT. In May 1942, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in England and France during WWII. He was a mechanic for the Red Bullet Express in France. They lived and traveled to many places in the US, Canada, Europe, and winter months in Arizona. Les was a member of the Minneluzahan Senior Center where he was involved in the Senior Olympics. He loved to play shuffle board, lawn bowling and help out on Wednesdays with lunch and bingo. Les was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Clairce (Brink) Millam, his parents, one sister and five brothers. He is survived by two daughters: Karen (Dave) Steinberg of Bozeman, MT, Mary Jo (Tom) Daniels of Tumwater, WA; six grandchildren: Marty (Willie) Meador of Red Deer, AB, Tom Daniels of Kamloops, BC, Lori (Tim) Quinn of Milesville, SD, Michele Steinberg of Rapid City, Kathy (Jason) Barnett of Vernon, BC and Kristi (Clay) Impala of Tacoma, WA. Les also has 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother: Melvin [Dorothy] Millam of Milaca, MN; and three sisters: Marian Lamprecht of Milaca, MN, Evelyn Alich of Milaca, MN, and Clarice Erickson of Minneapolis, MN. Arrangements are entrusted with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, Rapid City. A memorial service led by the family will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1012 Soo San Drive, at 11:30 A.M, with Rev. Bob Jacobs officiating. Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 at 10:00 am with full Military Honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post #1273 and South Dakota National Guard.
