Rapid City - Long-time South Dakota Resident Lillian Pearl Diekmann died at th Rapid City Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 27, 2008. She was 94. Born October 29, 1914, in Gregory to Theresa (Rajewich) and James Vosika, she attended elementary school near Gregory before the Great Depression forced her to leave school and find work to help out with her family. She worked at Buches Clothing Store in Gregory for many years. She married Harry H. Diekmann, of Burke, on June 9, 1940. They moved to Bloomfield, Nebraska in 1944 to find work. They lived in and around Bloomfield on 6 different farms over the years, where she milked many cows, slopped many pigs, butchered a lot of chickens, sold a lot of eggs and tossed several wagons of bales. She and Harry moved back to South Dakota in 1979. Throughout her long life, she planned, decorated, and catered many weddings, baby showers and dinners. She made many quilts back when there were no fancy stitches on sewing machines. She planted many gardens, harvested many crops, but her greatest love was for her plants. Anyone that knew her always admired her green thumb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, sisters, Helen (Dierks) and Marie (Halvorsen) and brother, Jack, who was killed in WWII. She is survived by her daughter, Laraine Derr (Romer), of Juneau, Alaska, sons James of Denver, Robert (Karen) of Rapid City, Gary (Diane) of Juneau, Alaska and Gene (Barbara) of Denver. Grandchildren, Evonne Dwyer of Columbus, Ohio, Jerome Diekmann and Ronnie Diekmann of Salt Lake City, Brandi Crawford of Colorado Springs, Calvin Noonan, of Mesa, Arizona, Jesse, Jason, Tyrell and Amber Diekmann all of Denver, and Chad Diekmann of Troutdale, Oregon. Step grandchildren are Chance Chamberlain of Juneau, Alaska, and Tammy Allen (Bart) of Oblong, IL, Todd Kincaid (Barb) Petersburg, IN and Troy Kincaid (Geline) of Robinson, IL. and great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday at Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday at the RimRock Community Service Center at Johnson Siding with Rev. Bob Savot officiating. Memorial funds will be established for the Big Bend Presbyterian Church and the Rimrock Community Center.
