IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Linova L.
Jennewein
June 25, 1936 – September 17, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reverend Linova; "Lin" Jennewein, who left us on the morning of September 17th, 2024, after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 88 years old. Lin passed away at Friendly Horizons Memory Care in Summerset, S.D., surrounded by the caring and attentive staff who along with her family, have supported her through this difficult journey.
Today, our feelings are a blend of deep sorrow and profound gratitude. We rejoice knowing that Lin is now with our Lord and Savior, experiencing firsthand the immeasurable joy of heaven that she has so eloquently shared with countless faithful believers during her over 35 years of compassionate ministry in rural South Dakota, United Methodist Churches. Her tireless dedication and unwavering faith touched the lives of many, and her spiritual legacy will continue to guide and inspire us.
At the same time, Lin's passing leaves a uniquely-shaped void in our hearts. Her remarkable impact on our churches and communities is beyond measure, and her absence is keenly felt.
She was born on June 25, 1936, to A. Marjorie (Bullock) Jennewein and J. Leonard Jennewein, she graduated from Huron High School in 1954, Dakota Wesleyan University in 1957, and Iliff School of Theology in 1982. In 1957 Lin married Andrew Hubbeling, and later moved to Rapid City, S.D. and had 3 children together.
Reverend Linova, was a second-generation clergy in the United Methodist Church; having followed in the footsteps of her grandfather, Dr. Rev. C.D. Bullock, a U.M.C. Circuit Rider. Lin's extensive contributions extended far beyond her pastoral duties. Lin was actively involved in the S.D. Humanities Council, S.D. Hall of Fame, Rotary, U.M.W., A.A.U.W., Democracy in Action, the Democratic Party, Choir, Well Done Players, Book Clubs, the Medical Ethics Board for Rapid City Regional Hospital, Church Response, P.E.O., and many more organizations. Her insightful column, "The Great Mystery," in the R.C. Journal is fondly remembered by many.
Lin was a pioneer and trailblazer in many ways, embodying roles such as mother, grandmother, aunt, wife, friend, pastor, leader, voracious reader, eloquent speaker, scribacious writer, preacher, advocate, activist, facilitator, founder, director, neighbor, singer, actor, collector, and above all, a generous giver.
She is survived by her children; Jil Hubbeling Jennewein, Karine Blackett, and Paul Hubbeling (Tina). She is also survived by five deeply loved grandchildren: Cody Hubbeling, Clint Hubbeling, Kevin Blackett, Arica (Hubbeling) Fairbanks (Matt), and Quintin Hubbeling. She is proceeded in death by her parents Marjorie and Leonard and sister Sylvia McTighe.
Lin fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. We take comfort in knowing that she has heard the words of Jesus she so richly deserves: "Well done, good and faithful servant." Her legacy of faith, love, and service will remain an enduring beacon for all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Her celebration of life will be held September 21, 2024 at the Canyon Lake United Methodist Church in Rapid City, S.D. at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow the service.
