Lise Eileen
Baur
September 23, 1966 – March 10, 2026
Lise Eileen Baur, née Livernois, 59, died on March 10, 2026, from complications of acute myeloid leukemia. Lise was born on September 23, 1966, in Detroit, MI to Edward Jerome Livernois (d. 1982) and Rita Marie née Dunberry (d. 2020). She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1989 from Mercy College of Detroit in English literature, with a minor in biology. Lise met Kevin Baur while they were members of the Downtown Runners group in Detroit, Michigan. They married in 1995 and later raised their family in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was a parishioner for many years at St. Andrew Apostle Catholic Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, where she volunteered extensively, teaching Sunday school and training altar servers. For a period, she also taught at the school affiliated with the parish. She also occasionally worked part time as a substitute teacher with disabled children.
She cared immensely about her family, homeschooling her two sons during high school and creating an engaging, joyful, and well-rounded environment for their childhood, while also devoting over 10 years to caring for her mother in her home during her mother’s struggle with dementia. She cared for her oldest son through his struggle with Crohn’s disease and, through extensive research, found a diet that helped support a long remission, dedicating herself to preparing the special meals it required over the years.
She was warm and outgoing, made friends easily, and had a notable talent for organizing events and coordinating logistics. She was very involved in pro-life advocacy in Maryland and continued this after moving to South Dakota. She coordinated rallies, prayed outside of abortion clinics, volunteered at crisis pregnancy centers, and helped campaign for ballot initiatives.
She was also active in her children’s cub scout pack, and later boy scout troop, organizing outings and meetings, and being merit badge counselor for the cooking merit badge. She applied her skills in organizing wherever they were needed. Whether organizing concession stands at swim meets and announcing events, leading a science club at her sons’ elementary school, or being involved at the local nature center, wherever she or her family became involved, she quickly became an active and valued part of the community. When Lise and Kevin retired to Rapid City, South Dakota in 2021, this was no exception: She became a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, volunteered at the local pregnancy center, and took on leadership role in the WannaBee Beekeeping club. She formed many new friendships while remaining close to many old friends.
She loved God and His Church and undertook extensive study of the Bible, and Catholic philosophy and theology.
Lise loved cooking, baking, arts and crafts, hiking, camping, archery, shooting ranges, fly fishing, and museums. She loved dogs and greatly missed Honey when she was away due to treatment.
She had a vibrant love for life and was long known for her happiness and frequent smiling. Her energy and curiosity often led her to new hobbies and interests, and she was always excited to try new things. She was quick to apologize, self-reflective, and always striving to become a better person. She readily forgave others and was exceptionally gracious in the moments that mattered most.
She faced her leukemia diagnosis with prayer and remarkable strength. She pursued aggressive treatment promptly and later participated in two Phase I clinical trials at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Although she had hoped treatment would be more effective, she held firmly to her beliefs, often repeating, ‘Jesus is in charge.’
Lise is survived by her husband, Kevin Baur; her sons, James Edward Baur of Tennessee and John Harrison Baur of Maryland; her brother, Jay Livernois of Michigan; her sister, Michelle Livernois of South Carolina; her nephew, Scott Mann; her niece, Angela Livernois; MaryAnn Mann of Michigan, mother of Scott and Angela; her brother-in-law, Kenneth Baur and his wife, Brenda, of Pennsylvania; her sister-in-law, Kim and her husband, Rod, of Arizona; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, in-laws, and extended family members.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow the Mass.
Interment will be at Rockerville Cemetery.
