Obituary

Rapid City Lloyd E. Grumpy Best, 85, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at his residence. Lloyd was born August 25, 1926 at Deadwood, SD to Walter and Mildred Sophia [Wennberg] Best. He attended school at several schools in the Northern Black Hills area due to his father was sectional manager for the railroad. At an early age he worked for a construction company prior to entering the United States Military where he was later honorably discharged. He married Donna Jeannine Hodgin on January 25, 1954 at Rapid City. Lloyd spent most of his life working in auto body. He was a life member of Rushmore VFW Post #1273. Survivors include one son: Michael [Julie] Best of Sioux Falls; one daughter: Doris [Duane] Houser of Rapid City; five grandchildren: Joe Crawford of Rapid City, Heather [Brad] Heinert of Black Hawk, Jessica [Jessie] Lilleskov of Rapid City, Holly [Travis] Gusso of Sioux Falls, and Gregory Best of Sioux Falls; an honorary grandson: Jeremy [Rhonda] Anderson of Rapid City; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Fred Best of Painsville, Ohio and George Ellenbest of Newport Richey, FL. His wife Donna preceded him in death on January 29, 2011, along with his parents and all other brothers and sisters. There will be Family only Memorial Services on Friday, November 18 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Chaplain [Ret] Herb B. Cleveland officiating with Military Honors conducted by the Rushmore VFW Post #1273 and South Dakota National Guard. Memorials may be directed to Rushmore VFW Post #1273 or charity of donors choice. Lloyd has gone fishing.
