Belle Fourche - Lloyd L. Nordstrom, Belle Fourche, passed away October 21, 2010 at Spearfish Regional Hospital at the age of 78. Lloyd was born September 17, 1932 to Gustof and Lillian (Breyerle) Nordstrom in Campbell County, South Dakota. He was the third of three children, joining his oldest sister, Margaret and brother, Leroy. He attended country school and graduated from Glenham High School in 1950. Lloyd was united in marriage to Kathleen (Kitty) Baumann on November 15, 1953 in Mobridge, SD. This union was blessed with two daughters, Jacklyn Kay in 1955 followed by Lynn Loy in 1956. Lloyd was drafted into the Army in September of 1955, and was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. He was honorably discharged in 1957. Following his service to his country Lloyd began a long and distinguished career in road construction, mining, and reclamation management dating back to 1958. Over the course of his career he worked for Art Schimkat Construction, American Colloid, (where he invented a patented loader bucket cleaner which is still used today), Zanstra Construction, Summit Construction, and IMEC Engineering. Lloyd retired from American Colloid in 1984, but never one to sit idle he kept busy working for Zanstra Construction, followed by Summit Construction, and then IMEC Engineering. In 1992 upon retiring for the second time Lloyd and Kitty returned to Belle Fourche. They purchased the Shady Lane Estates trailer park and he found himself with yet another job by completely remodeling and rebuilding the trailer park to his satisfaction. This was a job that kept him busy until they sold it in 2006 due to his declining health. In addition to his long working career Lloyd also found the time to volunteer his knowledge and skills at St. James Lutheran Church and also in the construction of the Belle Fourche Softball Complex and the drag strip west of Belle Fourche. The real highlight of Lloyds life; other than his bride of nearly 57 years, were his daughters and their husbands, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always having a love of sports, especially basketball and rodeo, Lloyd never missed any athletic event his grandchildren participated in. He was always in the stands, camcorder in hand so that he could enjoy the action for a second time later on video. He was still taking in the action at games for his great grandchildren as recently as the weekend before his passing. Early in life his hobbies included competing in rodeo in bareback and steer wrestling and basketball. Later in life he enjoyed playing basketball with his grandsons, and drinking coffee with friends. His life-long hobbies included pheasant hunting, playing cards and games. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his sister; his brother and brother-in-law, Dennis Baumann. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Belle Fourche, daughters, Jackie (Dave) Weidensee of Springfield, MO, Lynn (Duane) Olson of Belle Fourche, grandchildren Jason (Hailey) Riley of Gilbert, AZ, Heath (Emily) Olson of Belle Fourche, Dusty (Koral) Olson of Spearfish, and Alex Weidensee of Tulsa, OK, as well as great grandchildren Keegan Riley, Ava & Jett Olson, and Tate & Trigg Olson and a large extended family.
