RAPID CITYLolian Honey Rehfeld, 91, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House on Friday, December 10, 2010. Lolian Ione Honey was born on April 7, 1919, on a farm near Putney, SD, to Floyd and Theresa (Olson) Honey. She attended school in Brown County rural school and graduated from Groton High School in 1936. She attend Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen and received her first grade teaching certificate in 1938. She received a state certificate in 1941 and a Bachelors Degree in 1966. She taught rural school in Brown County, at the consolidated school in Agar and for 24 years in the Rapid City Public School system. Lolian retired in 1983. Lolian was united in marriage to Lester Rehfeld on November 27, 1943 in Aberdeen. They lived on a farm near Warner until 1952, when the family moved to Rapid City. During World War II, she spent the summers of 1942 and 1943 working at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach working on the B-17 and DC3 aircrafts for the war effort. Lolian enjoyed volunteer work at South Canyon Lutheran Church, the Chapel in the Hills and Meadowbrook Elementary School She was a member of South Canyon Lutheran Church and Black Hills Retired Teachers. Survivors include 2 sons, Jim Rehfeld and his wife Linda, of Simi Valley, CA and John Rehfeld, of Rapid City; 2 daughters, Janet McCaskey and her husband Tim, of Rapid City and Joy Rehfeld, of Rapid City; a brother, James Honey, of Tujunga, CA; 9 Grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester in 1989, 2 brothers, 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild. Her Celebration of Life will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, at South Canyon Lutheran Church with Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating.
