Lorene Marie Bowling, 89, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at Monument Health - Rapid City Hospital.
She was born March 31st, 1934 in Howard, South Dakota, born to Charles and Mary Lauer.
Lorene graduated from St. Agatha High School and moved to Mitchell, SD. She married Norm Puetz in June 1956 and moved to the Black Hills area. She was a very loving mother raising five over-active boys and working throughout the years as a telephone operator, ice cream shop owner, real estate agent and 26 years as a secretary at Black Hills Works. After her working years she volunteered time at the Rapid City VFW Post 1273 Auxiliary holding several positions.
Lorene's life was centered around her family, friends and faith. She enjoyed camping and fishing with friends. She loved playing board and card games with family and friends. Lorene treasured getting together weekly with the Waterloo ladies to play Mexican Train. She loved cooking for family and friends. Her specialty was her "world famous" chocolate chip cookies.
Lorene is survived by her sons, Rick (Becky) Puetz, Bob (Mylee) Puetz, Allen (Cindee Bittner) Puetz, Brett (Jennifer) Puetz: 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son David; her third husband Howard Bowling; her second husband Don Myers; siblings Regina McGuigan, Justin Lauer, Kathleen Fromelt, and Donald Lauer.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Sunday, October 29 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 30 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow. Burial will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church or Black Hills Works.
