Obituary

RAPID CITY- Lorraine Alt, 95, died Monday, January 6, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Lorraine (Krause) Alt was born on the family farm near New Leipzig ND on October 23, 1918. She was the second of nine children of Charles and Louisa Krause, she spent most of her life on the same family farm with Gust, her husband of 70 years. More recently they began going south for the winter months to their home in Rapid City, South Dakota. She was a devoted wife to Gust and loving mother to her 4 children, Nancy, Glenn, Dale and Gary. During her 95 years she expanded that family to include many more who she met and cared for. She was quick to provide for others whether it be a bed for the night or a meal at her table when someone stopped by for a visit, this humble gentle manner endeared her to all she met. Her generous spirit and accommodating way live on in the lives and actions of her family. She was also an entertainer always counted on for a good story, a composer writing songs and poetry and a singer and musician showing off her guitar and yodeling skills she could be counted on to keep one step ahead of everyone knowing when they needed a lift on a gloomy day or a laugh on sunny days, for that her children thank her for she has taught them how to do the same. We know that those reading this who knew her feel the same pain and loss her family does but we also know she wouldn't want us moping around feeling sorry for ourselves, she would want us to remember better times and to look forward to the best of time when we will be united once more when Jehovah fulfills his promise of "life without end". For those of us who were near her when she passed on into Jehovah's memory we do not sorrow at this passing it was a release from pain and suffering that was undeserved, so sleep on Lorraine sleep on until we are united once again to enjoy the stories, poetry and yodeling not for just a brief moment but for an eternity.
