Lorraine K. Buus, 85, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Lorraine K. Kueter was born on August 15, 1925, in Humboldt, to Joseph and Katherine (Hammon) Kueter. She grew up in rural Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1943. On August 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Jerry Buus in Humboldt. The couple in lived in Humboldt before moving to Rapid City in 1952. Lorraine was employed with Gibsons and Sears as a sales associate for many years. She has been an active member of the VFW Auxiliary since 1967, became a life member in 1989 and was the President from 1992-93. She was also a member of the Post 22 American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered with Special Olympics. Lorraine enjoyed watching sports, but disliked the Yankees. Survivors include a son, David (Troy Hanson) Buus, Gillette, WY; a daughter, Torri (Thomas) Messer, Gainesville, FL; a brother, Vincent (Eleanor) Kueter, Sioux Falls, 4 grandsons, Baend (Tia) Buus, Mitchell (Jacey) Messer, Michael (Angie) Messer and Yuri (Vanessa) Buus and 6 great-grandchildren, Kolby, Ashton, Morgen, Mason, Mayve, Myleigh. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry in 1990, her parents and an infant son. Visitation will be Saturday, March 12, from 9 until 11 a.m., with open casket from 9 until 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Therese, the Little Flower. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, at the church, with Rev. William Zandri as the celebrant. VFW Auxiliary Rites will immediately follow the mass at the church. A reception will then be held at the VFW Post 1273, 420 Main St. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery on Monday, March 14, at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
