Louis H. Ewert, 90, passed away at his home on Monday, March 2, 2015. A celebration of Louis' life will be held from 1-4 pm on Saturday, June 27, at Camp Rapid, Building 450. He was born on August 24, 1924, in Oklahoma City, OK to Henry C. and Clara (Volkers) Ewert. He moved to Pryor, OK when he was 7 years old and attended school and worked in the area until 1941. From 1941-1944 he had several jobs, including cab driving, farming, California ship yards and picking dates in California. In 1944 he was employed by custom combiners and finally made his home in Canning, SD in 1947. On December 21, 1949 he was united in marriage to Lois M. Aby in Pierre, SD. In September of 1952 they moved to Rapid City and he began a plastering trade. Through the years he worked for several contractors in the area. He semi-retired in 1988. Louis enjoyed hunting, jigsaw puzzles, and western movies. Survivors include his wife, Lois Ewert, Rapid City; a son, Leon (Mary) Ewert, of Piedmont; 3 daughters, Darlene Carter, of Piedmont, Sandra (Steve) Olson, El Cajon, CA and Starr (Bob) Penticoff, of Rapid City; a brother, Leonard (Shirley) Ewert, of Pryor, OK; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lee and 3 sisters, Linda, Lillian and Leona.
