Obituary

Lowell Lee Myers, age 82, of Rapid City, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Monument Health Hospital, Rapid City, SD.

Lowell was born August 22, 1942, in Wagner, SD to Glen and Fern Myers. He attended school in Lake Andes, SD. Lowell served in the US Army before returning to the area. He married Mary Engelhaupt on August 12, 1967. Six children were born into this union. They later divorced. Lowell married Penelope "Penny" Barnum in July 1984. Penny passed away in November 1995.

Lowell married Mary Ann Mykleby on September 13, 1996, and they made their home in Aberdeen, SD, later moving to Nevada and then finally settling in Rapid City, SD in 2002. Lowell had over a 30-year career as a sales and service engineer with Morgen Manufacturing of Yankton, SD which took him all over the United States and to many destinations around the world. He later worked at Wilbert Vault Company in Aberdeen, SD and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City where he retired in 2011. Lowell was a true craftsman always looking for his next project to build and enjoyed spending time tinkering in his garage. He also enjoyed reading, playing cards, dominoes, and board games with family and friends, working on puzzles, and following his grandchildren's sporting and school activities. He was an avid volunteer with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels. He had a wonderful group of friends in the Silver Sneakers exercise group and within his church community.

Lowell is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann Myers, his children Jeff (Stephanie) Myers of Huron, SD, Kristie (Dan) Blankenship of Slayton, MN, Glenda (Jason) Bittner of Sioux Falls, SD, and Monica Dahl (Neil Schmidt) of Yankton, SD, his stepchildren Lori Peterson of San Fransico, California, JoAnn (Warren) Golla of Minneapolis, MN, his grandchildren Jazmine (Adam Scott) and Tristan (Cassidy) Myers, Daniel, Dawson, and Kaitlyn Blankenship, Colin (Cassie) Swenson, Logan Swenson, and Alex Bittner, Jordan and Carter Dahl, Sierra, Anika and Willow Golla, great grandchildren Natalie Philbrick, Dax MacConnell and Rhea Myers, and his sister Barbara (Lars) Sorlein and sister-in-law Bonnie Myers, his son Michael's partner Jayme Kappel and her children Riley and Jayden Allmendinger, and many nieces and nephews.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Fern Myers, his daughter Catherine Myers, his son Michael Myers, his siblings Laura and Arnold Nelson, Glendora Myers, Glen "Buck" and Phyllis Myers, Blanche and Gordon Jewell, Dorothy and Niels Nielsen, Robert "Bob" Myers, Harvey Myers, Verna and Richard Wood, Merle and Norma Myers, Jackie Myers, Roger Myers, and brothers-in-law Gordon Mykleby and Robert "Bob" Mykleby, and nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with a prayer service to follow at 6:30 p.m.  A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 8, at South Canyon Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, SD.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Lowell's name to South Canyon Lutheran Church, Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity, Rapid City Meals on Wheels, and  Children's Home Society of South Dakota or the organization of your choice.
