RAPID CITY- Lucille Mae Battey, passed away at Rapid City Regional Hospital on September 15, 2017 at the age of 90.
Lucille was born in Pierre, SD in January 8, 1927. She earned as Associate Degree in Business from National College of Business where she met Lyle Battey who was attending School of Mines in Rapid City. They married and relocated to Pierre. They then took over the family farms at Ashton and Redfield, SD. Lucille took a position with Indian Health Services in Rapid City in 1968 where she worked for 37 years until she retired at the age of 75.
Lucille enjoyed cooking, which she was very good at. She loved her time on the farms raising children, chickens, ducks, and Siamese cats. She lived through many hard times such as the Great Depression and watching her son's go to fight wars in Vietnam and Iraq. She very much enjoyed the good times with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Geary Kesler and Eugene Geary and her children: Michael, Stephen, and Eugene.
Lucille is survived by her children: Aileen Battey Williams, Rapid City; John Battey, Tacoma, WA; sister, Esther Geary, New Mexico; four grandchildren: Kevin, Jessica, Stephen, and Michael; and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pierre next to her son, Stevie.
