Las Vegas New Mexico – Lucille Butler, 93, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the New Mexico Health Institute.
Lucille Ann Matt was born September 20, 1924 at Hill City, SD to Herman and Blanche [Pinkerton] Matt. Along with her four siblings she grew up on a ranch in the Deerfield/Gillette Prairie, SD area. She attended country school until high school, graduating from Hill City High School in 1942. Having gone through the "Great Depression" and World War II, she knew about hard work. She married Ivan William Butler September 1, 1942 at Rapid City, SD. They worked in Deadwood before moving to Belle Fourche in 1950. Lucille had an antique store, "Lucy's Antiques", worked at the Tri-State Bakery, in a convenient store and was later curator of the Belle Fourche Tri State Museum. After she retired, Lucille moved to New Mexico, where she lived for 23 years.
She was a long-time member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fouche, San Miguel Catholic Church in New Mexico, and Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City.
Lucille is survived by two daughters: Beverly Butler of San Jose, New Mexico and Barbara (Butler) Allum of Rapid City, two grandchildren: Mike (Thia) Allum and Katie (Brant) Bell; five grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents four siblings.
Rosary will be 6:00 pm Monday, January 8, 2018 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Memorial Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Tuesday, January 9 at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City.
Burial of cremains will follow at Hill City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of the Black Hills in Rapid City or Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
