IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lyle A.
Wakeley
December 9, 1941 – June 1, 2017
Lyle Allen Wakeley, 75, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Rapid City, SD with his family by his side. He fought a long battle with lung cancer, and an even longer battle with heart complications.
Lyle was born on December 9, 1941 in Crofton, NE to parents Allen and Vera Wakeley. He and his siblings grew up on their family farm, where they learned the value of hard work and a love for cars. He was a kind and gentle man and knew no stranger, as he was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a mechanic for much of his career and even into his retirement, as he'd help fix anyone's vehicle that needed it. He was a jokester, even to the end, loved to camp and fish, play cards, and most of all spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Wakeley of Rapid City SD; twin brother Leon (Pat) Wakeley of Crofton, NE; sister Shirleen (Roger) Kotil of David City, NE; brother Gerald (Mary) Wakeley of Norfolk, NE; daughter Amy (Shane) Reinpold of Mitchell, NE; son Michael Wakeley (Roxanne Rotherham) of Bayard, NE; and son Chris (Stacia) Wakeley of Rapid City, SD. Lyle was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Branden, Tyler and Heidi Reinpold, Stephan Wakeley, Logan and Connor Reinpold, Hailie Reinpold, Ian Salinas, Emmalynn Wakeley and Melanie Wakeley.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents: Allen and Vera Wakeley; good friend Dick Kautz; brother-in-law Roger Kotil; and grandson Branden Reinpold. A memorial service will be held at Church of Christ, 1919 Avenue N in Scottsbluff, NE at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10. Family and friends are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute, 353 Fairmont Blvd., Rapid City, SD 57701.
Arrangements are under the direction of Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, Rapid City, SD.
