IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynn "Bergie"
Ellis Bergstrom
October 13, 1948 – March 20, 2025
Lynn "Bergie" Bergstrom age 76, received his final transportation on the first day of spring, March 20, 2025. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family.
He was born in 1948 to Wilmer and Delphus (Struck) Bergstrom, who had their hands full from the start. He graduated from Central High School in 1966. He was the first to admit he tried to break all the rules (somehow he made it through). In 1995 Bergie married Cheryl (Larson) Bergstrom, who managed to keep him in line most of the time.
For 32 years Bergie worked at the South Dakota Cement Plant. He wore many hats. He was best known as the Maintenance Truck Shop Supervisor. Working with the State of South Dakota he assisted the Governor at the Command Centers for forest fires in this area. He took pride in his company, Bergstrom's Tree Planting. His final employment, Dream Design Construction, is where his heart was captured at the farm, having his hands in the dirt and tending the goats and cattle.
Bergie was a man of deep faith, strong values, and love for the outdoors. Bergie pursued many passions; personal relationships with family, friends, and the men he sponsored. He loved the prairie (God's Country), pheasant hunting, classic cars, fishing, camping, gardening, and riding Harley Davidsons. Bergie's story of losing everything he loved and his journey into a new life based on honesty, integrity, love and commitment was his personal ministry. He always gave thanks for his mentors and spiritual guides along the way.
You would hear Bergie say just call me, 1-800-BIG FISH. Fishing with Bergie made you an angler or never set foot in the boat again. He loved to fish from sunup to sundown.
His Scandinavian heritage was a point of pride. Holidays always included Potato Sausage and the homemade Turkey dressing. He was quick to let you know his opinion, you didn't have to guess. His honesty was paired with a twinkle in his blue eyes.
Bergie is survived by wife Cheryl (Larson) Bergstrom, children Melissa (Josh) Percy of Lead, Jesse (Whitney) Lewton of Faulkton. Also survived by former spouse Linda (Barker) Koch, and daughter Jada Bergstrom of Rapid City, brothers Arnie and Harlan Bergstrom of Rapid City, as well as ten grandchildren and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Corinne; his brother, Charlie; his sisters, Connie and Ginny, and his parents Wilmer and Delphus Bergstrom.
A celebration of Bergie's life will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday March 28, at Hills View Church in Piedmont SD. He chose the Piedmont Cemetery for all to remember the life we shared with him. A luncheon and grave dedication will follow the service.
A memorial can be made to Stillwater Hospice and/or Alano Club Rapid City. Continue to bring laughter and joy to each other by telling your stories in Bergie fashion.
