Obituary

Mildred Elaine (Coy) Moore Rapid City- Mildred Elaine (Coy) Moore, 82, a resident of Rapid City, died December, 29, 2008 at Fountain Springs Nursing home. She was born February 15, 1926 in Randolph, Iowa to Herbert "Jack" and Lola Chloe (Wilson) Coy. She grew up around the Sturgis area. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1944. She married Wilbur "Buck" Moore, May 20, 1944. They were married 49 years. They spent many years raising a family and multiple endeavors, The Shoe Repair Shop, Upholstery Garage, Bookkeeping for the Old Home Bakery Credit Union, A-1 Ditching and then with Simoore Trailers. They loved the outdoors and having a good time with family and friends. Time off was spent camping, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and traveling. She continued traveling around the world after Buck passed on. She made it to every state in the USA. She toured most of Europe. She made it to two World Fairs, in 1964 New York and Seattle, Wash. in 1974. She lived most of her life in Rapid City, but lived her early years in Tilford, & Sturgis. There was a brief time the family moved to Spokane, Wash., but they returned back to Rapid City and stayed. Elaine was a hands on mother and wife. She helped Buck in his work and the children with their activities. She was a Boy Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader, Secretary for the PTA, and active in baseball for the boys. She loved the game of baseball her entire life and was even fortunate to make it to games for her great-grandchildren. She was on numerous city bowling leagues through her life. She was very talented. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, and could crochet about any craft she put her mind to. She made 2 wedding dresses for her daughters, and every family member, a knitted sweater and Afghans. She was very active, and a leader when it came to projects. She was an avid gardener and loved working in the yard. After raising her children she went on to graduate from Green's Beauty College in 1968. She had a small in-house beauty shop for a few years until a car accident injured her neck and back and she wasn't able to continue with that line of work. Later in life, Buck and she were members of the Moose Lodge, and the Minneluzahan Senior Citizens Center. They had a great love of playing cards. She loved going to Deadwood. Her favorite pastime was dancing. Anyone that knew her knew she loved to dance. She was always ready for the dances, square dancing or at the Senior Citizens Center. She loved country music. She was talented in playing the harmonica and keyboard by ear. She attended Faith Lutheran Church. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Stahl, and her husband Richard of Rapid City, Judy Ortmeier and her husband Kenneth of Calahoo, Alberta, & Kristi McGill and her husband David, Rapid City, her sons, Steven Moore and his wife Pamela, Kelly Moore and his wife Denise, all of Rapid City. She had 20 Grandchildren, 62 Great Grandchildren, & 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. Her sisters, Dorothy Brown and her husband Robert of Rapid City, Arlene Hormel of Silverdale, Wash. & one brother Jack Coy and his wife Rita of Fernwood, Idaho. Two sister-in-laws, Ruth Linn, of Sturgis and Betty Stemple, of Rawlins, Wyo. and many nieces and nephews across the country. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur "Buck" Moore, two of their daughters, Lee Ann Sime and Doneen Haustein. Her parents Herbert "Jack" and Lola Chloe Coy, and a sister, Vivian Underwood. She will be joining her grandchildren, Tanna Moore, Robert Ashmore and great-grandchildren, Donny Quinn and Isabella Jodoin. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00PM, Friday, January 2, 2008 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be 10:00AM Saturday, January 3 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Sr. Susan Pohl officiating. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City. A memorial has been established to Rapid City Regional Hospice House.
