RAPID CITY - Mae M. Crocker, 77, Rapid City, went home to our Heavenly Father on Monday, October 13, 2008, with gentle and loving care at the Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House. Born on June 20, 1931 to Michael Francis "Frank" and Gertrude (Babcock) O'Dea in Cottonwood, SD, Mae spent her early years in Pedro, O'Dea, and Quinn before moving with her parents to Rapid City in the late 1930's. She attended country school north of Quinn, grade school at Rapid City Cathedral and went on to Rapid City High School, where she met her future husband Carroll "Curly" Crocker. Mae and Curly were united in marriage on April 19, 1948 and this year celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. While raising their four children, Mae was employed at the Sheraton-Johnson Hotel as an elevator operator, desk clerk, and night auditor, then at Swanders Baking Company. In the 1960's Mae opened and managed the Fanny Farmer Candy Shop located in the Alex-Johnson Hotel. She went on to work for Rapid Furniture, which later became Larkin and Jones, and at the time other retirement was employed at Gimples Boot Store. Mae lived for many years with a lingering illness but was a fighter throughout and for their sixty years of marriage, she remained the greatest joy of her husband's life. Mae will be remembered as a sweet and gentle spirit to all who got to know her. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.
