RAPID CITYManly Duane (Dude) Herron, 82, passed away from pneumonia on Sunday morning, March 24, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born on July 12, 1930, in Lacona, Iowa to Omer and Lois (Machesney) Herron. He attended school in Indianola, Iowa and then started a 20 year career in the Navy in 1948. He served all over the world on many ships and retired as a Gunner's Mate Master Chief in 1968. He was then employed in the liquid propane industry with Kaiser-Brencar of Seattle. He retired in 1997 as a Vice President. Survivors include his wife, Grace Herron, Rapid City; a grandson, Riley Herron, Belle Fourche; 2 brothers, John (Joyce) Herron, Hartford, Iowa and Herb (Barb) Herron, Salem, New Hampshire; 2 sisters, Dorothy Hicks, Des Moines, IA and Lois Engstrom, St. Paul, MN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Jeff Herron in 2011 and Tim Herron in 1991; 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Graveside services will be later this summer in Newbern (Iowa) Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
