Obituary

Loving husband, father, and friend Marc S. Jacobs, 62, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 9, 2024.

Marc was born April 3, 1962 in Bismarck, N.D., the youngest child of Ron and JoAnn (Japel) Jacobs. He attended St. Mary's High School and Bismarck Junior College where he met and later married Brenda (Fode) Jacobs and began working for MDU. Marc worked for MDU, which moved him and his family from Bismarck to Billings, Jamestown, and finally where they settled and raised their family in Rapid City, S.D.

Together, Marc and Brenda raised three children—Lucas, Jessica, and Matthew—instilling in them the principles of diligence and staying true to one's values. Marc was never afraid to speak his mind and stand his ground in the face of obstacles, whether that meant going the distance for a customer, standing up for friends, or rooting for his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings. After nearly 40 years with MDU, Marc retired in April 2022 from his position as a marketing manager, allowing him to dedicate more time to his family. Marc's affection for his family and friends was evident through his playful teasing, diligent reminders ("When was the last time you checked your oil?") or joyful invitations to have a seat at his table at his favorite bar.  He loved life, his Catholic faith, and especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

Marc is survived by his son, Lucas Jacobs, of Seattle, daughter and son-in-law Jessica (Jacobs) and Timothy Caruthers and their three children Mary, Oliver and Luke all of Houston, and son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Kami (Wagner) Jacobs and their two children, Micah and Leah all of Rapid City, S.D.  He is also survived by his three sisters: Barbara (Jacobs) Neutz, Ann (Jacobs) Schommer, and Patricia (Jacobs) Schumacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and JoAnn (Japel) Jacobs.
