Obituary

Marcella Schlottman, 89, passed away at Clarkson Healthcare in Rapid City on Friday, June 20, 2014. Marcella Ruth (Klein) Schlottman was born on December 6th, 1924, in Reeder, North Dakota to John Klein and Matilda (Jergentz) Klein. She was the oldest of six children. In 1934 the family moved from North Dakota to Hayward, CA. When she was eleven years old she attended a children's day at her church where she put her trust in Jesus and prayed that he would take her as His child. Marcella graduated from Hayward High School in 1942. She met Victor Schlottman while attending Hayward Bible Chapel and they were married in Hayward on December 19th, 1942. While in California, they had three children: James, Larry and Shirley. In 1958 they moved to Rapid City, SD and joined South Canyon Baptist Church. She served her church faithfully as an organist, a member of the church choir and Mission Circle, and one of the leaders of a ladies Bible study. Marcella was an accomplished seamstress and sewed her daughter's wedding dress, in addition to dozens of Christmas, Easter and birthday dresses for her granddaughters. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Marcella is survived by her son James (Barbara) of Aurora, CO, her daughter Shirley (Robert) Eben of Rapid City, grandson Tadd (Anette) and great-grandchildren Jakob & Emelie of Aurora, CO, granddaughter Tara (Chad) Lindburg and great-grandchildren Annika & Soren of Castle Rock, CO, grandson Jared (Jessica) Eben and great-grandchildren Andrew, Madelyn, Jayna and Norah of Rapid City, granddaughter Marci Eben of Hill City, grandson Jamin Eben of Louisville, KY, grandson Aaron Eben, and granddaughters Sarah Jill, Rayni & Aaliyah Eben all of Rapid City. She is also survived by her brothers Donald (Peggy) Klein, Robert (Deane) Klein, Kenneth (Martha) Klein, and her sister Lynnette (Lloyd) Kjos, all of California. Preceding Marcella in death were her husband Victor, her son Larry, her parents, and her sister Dorothy. Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 pm on Monday, June 23, at South Canyon Baptist Church, 3333 W. Chicago St., in Rapid City. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 24, at South Canyon Baptist Church with Pastors Paul Lloyd, Brent Reeves and Jamin Eben officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery in Rapid City.
