IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marcia Regina
Hill
September 3, 1937 – September 26, 2023
Marcia Hill, 86 Rapid City - Marcia Regina (Ford) Hill passed away September 26, 2023 at her residence at West Hills Village, Rapid City, S.D. while in in-house Hospice. She had fought Parkinson's Disease and its complications for 26 years. Marcia Ford was born in Huron, S.D., on Sept. 3, 1937, the daughter of Cornelius and Gertrude (Smith) Ford. She attended school in Huron, and was a music education student at Huron College when she met Dennis Hill, formerly of Chicago, Ill. They married on June 9, 1957 in Huron. Marcia then joined Dennis at the University of North Dakota, where he graduated from the School of Law in 1959. During this time, she was an elementary school teacher in Emerado, N.D.
In 1959, the couple moved to Rapid City, SD, where Dennis pursued his law practice, and she taught elementary school in the Rapid City School District. Sons David, Daniel, Douglas and Don-Michael were all born in Rapid City. While raising her sons, she taught piano lessons, learned to play the violin, and obtained a special education degree from Black Hills State College. She also wrote stories for local newspapers, was a violinist in the Black Hills Symphony, and was a part-owner of the Mustard Seed Catholic Store in Rapid City. During her lifetime, she was the author of four books, the subjects of which included family history, travel, and her special-needs son, Doug. She also managed the shopping center, Times Square, and served on many civic organizations, including Sertoma Club, Jaycettes, Black Hills Workshop, Rapid City Symphony Board, Chamber Music Festival of the Black Hills and many others.
Marcia's special interests were always her four sons, down-hill and cross-country skiing, tennis, swimming, writers groups and travel. She attended Blessed Sacrament Church, and was a member of its Ladies Prayer group. All who knew her were on her birthday and Christmas card list.
Her middle name, Regina, means queen in Gaelic. She was certainly the queen to her family, and as such displayed grace, the ability to solve disputes among her four sons … and, according to her sons, unyielding stubbornness. Family was essential to who she was, as were music and faith in God's plan and purpose.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and son Douglas (2019).
She is survived by her husband Dennis of 66 years; brothers Cornelius (Mariellena) Ford of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Manny (Petya) Ford of Las Vegas, NV; and sons David (Peter Ringerud) of Thief River Falls, MN; Dan (Kris Reynolds) of Austin, Texas; and Don-Michael (Dawn Edwards) of Apopka, FL, and Rapid City, SD. She is also survived by her granddaughters Kia Hill of Minneapolis; Brynja Hill of Boston, MA; Jenna Feld of Austin, TX; Michael and Rick Reynolds of Austin, TX; and her great grandson, Connor Feld of Austin, TX.
