Bratek
June 8, 1942 – May 12, 2023
RAPID CITY – Margaret Helen "Peggy" Bratek, 80, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023. Peggy was born June 8, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri, the eldest child of Delbert and Margaret (Lamperski) Hughes.
She moved several times over the years ultimately settling in Rapid City. She spent her career of 30 years working in the Civil Service for the United States Air Force. During her time with the Civil Service, she met Mark Bratek in 1980 while working at Ellsworth AFB. Peggy and Mark were later married on October 11, 1986.
She loved to sing, work in her garden and was involved in documenting her family's ancestry. She had researched and collected a great deal of information about her family's lineage. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and she enjoyed crocheting gifts for them and others. Peggy will particularly be remembered for her "crazy plate" meals that she shared with her family.
She is survived by her husband Mark, her children, Paula Canova (Alan) of Massachusetts, Poteet Stolte (Scott) of South Dakota and Shelia Kempher of Tennessee. Peggy was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Glougie, parents, Delbert and Margaret Hughes, brother, Carl Hughes, and great grandson, Anthony Kempher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Down Syndrome Society.
