Obituary

Rapid City Margaret Marie Brooks, 85, Rapid City, died at the Rapid City Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Margaret Marie Christensen was born November 12, 1926 in Henry, Nebraska to Chris Christensen and Mary Grewe Christensen. She attended school in Merriman, Ne. and boarding school in Chadron, Ne. graduating from Merriman High School in 1944. During the War, she taught in a country school south of Merriman. She moved to Rapid City, SD to attend Rapid City Business School. In 1948 she married Gordon A. Brooks, of Cody, Ne. They lived in Rapid City while Gordon attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. She worked as a secretary at the business college. They moved to Leoti, Kansas in 1949 where Gordon attended Kansas State University. Following his graduation, they moved back to Rapid City, SD where Gordon worked as an architect, and she stayed home to raise the children, Eric, Julianna, and Paul. When her children were grown, she worked as the business manager of their architecture firm. They retired to Lake Angostura near Hot Springs in 1986. Following her husbands death in 1989, she moved to Hot Springs and worked as a secretary for Dakota Hills Realty before retiring again in 1997. In 2000, she moved to Black Hawk, SD to be closer to her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, sons Eric and Paul, grandson Damon, and great granddaughter Adriona and her brother John Christensen. She is survived by her sister Vanessa McConaughey of Denver, Co., sister-in-law Annabel Christensen,daughter Julianna Brooks and son-in-law Larry Luchsinger of Rapid City, daughter-in-law, Kathy Brooks, grand daughter Lindsay Wermers, Lindsays husband Joshua, and great grandsons Joseph and Rylan, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. Per her wishes, there will be no service. Family and friends are invited to attend a gathering in her honor at Canyon Lake Chop House in Rapid City from 3 to 6 pm on Tuesday, March 6th.
