Obituary

Margaret Irene Fenner, 98, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Golden Living Center-Black Hills. She was born June 6, 1917 in Letcher, SD, to Roland E. and Ethel I. (Taylor) Comstock. Growing up in the Great Depression, money was undoubtedly in short supply. This sense of thriftiness was something evident throughout her life. She would often comment on the pony that took her back and forth to school. Margaret's many handmade doll outfits stand as a testament to her skill as a seamstress; working at a dry cleaner, well into her 90's. She worked in the meat department at the Safeway store in Baken Park and met regularly with co-workers after her retirement. She and Joe were apt to have family members visit to the point of having a small dormitory of beds in the basement of their home on West St. Anne Street. Getting her to give up the car keys proved to be an enduring challenge for several of her family members. She was keen to remember family at birthdays even as her health declined. Survivors include her daughter, Nora Sharlow, of Lebanon, IN; four grandchildren, Steven, (Elsa), Eric, Stacey (Nate) Thompson, and Joy Zeigler; five great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jeremy, Jeff, Brandon and Jason; seven step grandchildren, Deana, Ray, Morris, Margo, Paula, Sophie and Anita; five great-great-grandchildren; 15 great-great step grandchildren; her daughter-in- law, JoAnn Toland, Rapid City; and first cousin, Donna Shafranek. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Melvin Toland and Joseph Fenner; a son, Roger Toland; a grandson, Bobby Dean Sharlow; a stepson, Gayle Fenner; and a stepdaughter, Juanita Jeppesen. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at the funeral home, with Pastor Herb Cleveland officiating. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
