IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret Anne
Minkel
December 23, 1930 – February 8, 2023
Margaret (Marge) was born during the dirt bowl days, a farm girl herding cows barefoot through pastures. "Annie" attended country school and dreamed of adventure as a young girl.
After she graduated from Burke High School she traveled to Rapid City with a friend.
She later met her husband Earl, who was stationed at Ellsworth AB , at a dance in the Baken Park dance pavilion. They married and traveled the world with their children.
She later became a feminist, N.O.W and PFLAG President for SD. An ardent liberal, she joined Peace & Justice, became a UU founding member and wrote many letters to the local paper. She considered herself a humanist.
Marge was a founding Mother of the battered Woman's shelter; procuring a grant, finding a home, fixing up the place and answering the phone line. She volunteered to pick up women and children in the middle of the night, transporting them to the hospital and shelter. She did that for over ten years.
Marge was later recognized and honored by Rapid City for all of her hard work with the shelter. She also became an author and published two books. Marge loved to paint with country, folk and 60's music playing in the background.
She read voraciously, enjoyed a good debate and loved looking at stars wondering about the universe. She also enjoyed walking her dog at local parks, meeting people and feeding the squirrels and ducks.
She deeply loved her husband, family, grandkids and great grandkids, dogs, cats and nature.
Mom always said she lived a full life - and did.
Marge was deeply loved, respected and will be immensely missed. Remembered always for the love and support she gave to her family.
Our family wishes to thank Stillwater Hospice for all their dedication, hard work and support during the last year
of Marge's life. You are truly a blessing and comforted our Mom, so she could pass from this life into the next in peace.
