Rapid City – Margery Jean Fahrenbach, 93, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
She was born December 15, 1923 at Lansing, Michigan to Leaah M (Seibley) and Percy J. Hoffmaster. She graduated from Central High School at Lansing and from Michigan State University, Division of Geography and Geology (East Lansing). She was a member of Alpha Phi Soroity.
During World War II she served in the Navy W.A.V.E.S. After the war she was promoted to Ensign and served in the Naval Reserve. Margery moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Aeronautical Chart Service compiling maps and charts for the U. S. Air Force. She was married June 1950 to John E. Fahrenbach of Chevy Chase, Maryland, who was on officer in the U. S. Navy. They spent several years living in Turkey and the Middle East, then moved to Relay, Maryland where they raised two boys, Kim and Mark.
Margery later moved back to Lansing, where she worked for the Department of Natural Resources as a research specialist studying shoreline erosion along the Michigan Great Lakes. She retired from the DNR and returned to Relay, Maryland where she worked to obtain a historic district designation for the community. Margery loved traveling, gardening, nature and the outdoors. She was a wonderful mother, and just loved life!
Margery is survived by her two sons Kim E. Fahrenbach of Baltimore, Maryland and Dr. Mark D. (Joy) Fahrenbach of Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert J. Hoffmaster in 1977 and her husband John E. Fahrenbach in 1984.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be 2:00 pm Monday, November 27, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Chief Chaplain (Ret). Herb B. Cleveland officiating.
Inurnment of her cremains will take place at a later date at the Deepdale Memorial Park Cemetery at Lansing, Michigan.
