Obituary

Margret Elizabeth McIntosh, affectionately known to many as Grandma Mac, died June 12 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was 100 years old. Margret was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on February 1, 1915, the cherished daughter of Victor and Anna (Anderson) Carlson. She graduated from high school in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota. She married Stanley Swanson in 1934 and they had three daughters; Gwen, Susan and Bonnie. After Stanley's death in 1940, Margret remained in Minneapolis until 1942 when she moved to Rapid City to live with her parents who cared for her daughters while she worked as a telephone operator. She married W. Richard McIntosh in 1943. Their family grew to two more daughters, Jeanne and Michele, and two sons, Richard and Michael. Margret was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, transferring to Calvary Lutheran Church after moving to the Meadowbrook area. She spent many years as a member of the Ladies Aid, teaching Sunday School, and caring for children in the nursery. Through the years, Grandma Mac shared her abundant love and attention with the children and their parents. During the time she was raising her children, Grandma Mac cared for many other children in her home. Additionally, she was active in Girl Scouts and eventually became the executive director of the Rapid City Girl Scouts. Later in life she was able to pursue her strong interest in golf, including working in the starter shack at Meadowbrook golf course. As president of the ladies golf association, she assisted in the reconstruction design of the golf course following the flood in 1972. Margret is survived by her children; Susan Marquardt, Bonnie (Terry) Larson, Jeanne (Billy) Mayes, Richard (Joyce) McIntosh, Michael (Rondi) McIntosh, and Michele McIntosh; her grandchildren; Cathy (Rex) Conrad, Charles (Naomi) Clark, Kris (John) Knapp, David (Brenda) Clark, Carol (Bill) Cook, Kirk (Judy) Teaney, Cheryl (Dave) Trimble, Mitch (Nancy) Teaney, Julie (Duane) Roussin, Lynne Wiebold, Margaret (Casey) Campbell, Marie (Larry) Morrison, Meredith Gednalske, Darin (Kelly) McIntosh, Doug McIntosh, Adrian Stuckey, MiKayla Blewett; 29 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands; her daughter, Gwen Clark; her parents; and her brother, Carl Carlson. The family is grateful to the staff of Fountain Springs Nursing Home for the loving care given to Margret. The funeral will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid City on Saturday, June 20, at 10:00 am. Internment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery on Monday, June 22, at 10:00 am.
