Rapid City Marie M. Beckman, 72, of Rapid City died at her home on Friday, January 15, 2010. Marie Magdelena Czech was born September 30, 1937 at Watertown, South Dakota to George Robert and Dora Irene [Klucas] Czech. She attended school and grew to adulthood at Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1955. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Don Beckman on September 10, 1955 at Bakersfield, California, where Bob was stationed in the US Navy. She was then a devoted wife and mother while her husband was then in the US Air Force for 23 years. They retired from the Air Force at Washington, DC in 1980 and moved to Rapid City where Marie then became employed with Ellsworth Air Force Base where she was a Fire Inspector and Fire Fighter. After 20 years, she retired as she and her husband traveled extensively and spent the winter months in Florida. She was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She loved to fish, esp. walleye fishing in the Pierre area. Survivors include her husband: Robert D. Beckman of Rapid City; one son: Robert S. [Lisa] Beckman of Dover, Delaware; one daughter: Lizabeth M. [Loren] Skjervem of Rapid City; three grandchildren: Sabre and Amber Skjervem of Rapid City and Timothy Beckman of Dover, Delaware; and two brothers: Robert E. Czech of Ogden, Utah and Marvin M. [Maxine] Czech of Watertown, SD. Marie was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 19 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1630 Rushmore Street, with Rev. Joshua Jones officiating. Inurnment of her cremains will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
