Obituary

Rapid City – E. Marie Sugden died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Marie was born in Wolf Point, Montana to Theodore and Olga Rothe, the third of four children. She grew to adulthood working at Rothe's Dairy in Wolf Point which was established by her parents in 1928. Marie would help with everything from bringing in the call to milking and delivering the milk. Marie attended high school, graduating in 1952 as Sigma Cum Laude.

She was married in 1952 to Keith Sugden. They were blessed with five children: Charlotte (Deane) Goss of Rapid City, Clarisse Brookens of Rapid City, Christine Sugden, Richard (Wanda) Sugden of Rapid City, and Dale (Brenda) Sugden of Galesburg, IL; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She relocated to the Black Hills area in 1959. Her career spanned from being a switchboard operator in Wolf Point to being a secretary in the South Dakota National Guard, eventually leading her to retire from the Black Hills National Forest Service as an Administrative Officer with a GS-13 in 1994.

Her career was very important to her, however nothing was more important to Marie than her family. She had a love that extended to everyone she met, including her dog, Dickens. She enjoyed her hobbies of bowling, earning secretary of the year through the SDWBA and a spot in the SD Bowlers Hall of Fame in 2004, becoming a choir director in Sturgis and Box Elder, and cribbage. For all who knew her and her strong faith in God, we will miss her and continue to love her and most importantly we will see her again.

She was preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Olga Rothe, sister Ann Rensvold, brother Eddie Rothe, and daughter Christine Sugden.
