RAPID CITY- Marilyn Y. Hanson, 77, died Sunday, February 2, 2013 at Sturgis Regional Senior Care after a struggle with Alzheimer's. Marilyn was born on September 10, 1935 in Alpena, South Dakota to Melvin and Ida (Johnson) Myran. She graduated from Alpena High School and later obtained her Nursing Certificate. She devoted her life to nursing and spent over 30 years with Bennett Clarkson in Rapid City; retiring in 2000. Through her work, she touched countless lives. After retiring, Marilyn volunteered at the Salvation Army. Throughout her life, she was the self-proclaimed rummage sale queen and enjoyed it with her sons. She bought numerous items for patients, families, and other people who needed it. Her acts of kindness to other people were truly a gift. Marilyn enjoyed dressing up; especially for Halloween and the Days of 76 in Deadwood. Survivors include three sons: Robert Hanson and his wife, Heidi Hofer, Greg Hanson, and Mike Hanson; all of Rapid City; one brother, Lyle (Shannon) Myran, Brandon, SD. She was preceded in death by her son, Todd Hanson in 1986; her two sisters: LuJean "Tooie" Steiner of Rapid City; Julaine Hammer of Lakewood, CO; brother, Percy Myran of Spearfish; and her ex-husband, John. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Boys Club of Rapid City.
