Obituary

Marilyn Marie Lindly; beloved wife, mother and grandmother; passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, with family at her side at the age of 92. Marilyn was born on January 29th, 1932, and welcomed by parents Helen and Angur Eck and sister, Doris, of Kearney, NE. She attended Kearney State College (University of Nebraska at Kearney) where she graduated with a BA in English/Speech. She met and married Charles Albert Lindly on August 10th, 1952. After college she taught English and drama before starting a family. Four children were born over the next several years in Nebraska and Colorado.

Marilyn was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rapid City, serving frequently as a Sunday school teacher and deaconess, as well as being an active member of Fellowship Circle. She was a 50+ member of PEO, and held several offices within her chapters in Rapid City and Laramie, Wyoming. In later years, she enjoyed delving deeper into the conservation and preservation of historical objects through the Questers club of Rapid City.

Throughout her life Marilyn volunteered a substantive amount of time to charitable endeavors. Among those she was most devoted were United Way and Habitat for Humanity. Additional passions included genealogy, Shakespearian studies, historical research, live theater, travel and books of all genres. Married 72 years, her most cherished role, however, was that of wife, mother and grandmother. This was evidenced in the considerable time spent creating memorable holiday gatherings, hosting one or more of her seven grandchildren, and planning regular family reunions.

Left to cherish her memory are husband, Chuck; children Stephen (Carol), Catherine, Elizabeth (Steven), and Daniel (Juli); grandchildren Daniel, Elizabeth, Lauren, Emily, Julia, Matthew and Dylan; and great grandchildren.

In remembrance of Marilyn Lindly, the family requests that donations be made to the Rapid City Cornerstone Mission and Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity. Celebration of life to follow at a later date.
