Marjorie Lucille (Kolbach) Flynn died April 22, 2024. Marjorie was born Nov. 5, 1929 on a farm homesteaded west of Howard, SD. She was the daughter of George Kolbach and Florence (Finley) Kolbach. Marjorie was the 5th and last surviving sibling of six children.
After graduating from Argonne High School in 1947, she moved to Sioux Falls. She received her nursing degree from Presentation School of Nursing/McKennan Unit in 1951. Marjorie then worked at Avera/McKennan Hospital Labor and Delivery. After moving to Rapid City in 1966 she worked at St. John's Hospital L&D unit, and later provided private respite care.
Marjorie was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, and on May 16th, 1953, married Leo C Flynn. They had 5 children Patricia, Rosemary, Colleen, Thomas, and Daniel. They were members of St Joseph Cathedral from 1954-1966, where the children attended grade school until they moved to Rapid City in 1966. Marjorie was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for 56 years and a member of the Altar Society. She loved spending time with family and friends, collecting Beanie Babies, playing bingo, promoting Respect Life, and being Irish.
She is survived by her five children Patricia Emerson and Rosemary Evjen (Gary) – Sioux Falls, Colleen Gullickson - Brandon, Thomas Flynn (Dawn) – Sandy, Utah, and Daniel Flynn (Kendrea) – Rapid City, 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her father, George, her mother, Florence, her siblings, Louise Curran, Phyllis Bennett, Marcella Effertz, Eugene and Robert Kolbach, and her husband Leo C Flynn.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help "In Steel and Stone Campaign" or the Monument Hospice House in Marjorie's name.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with a Christian Wake Service at 3:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Fr. Brian Christensen presiding.
Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at 1:30 p.m.
