RAPID CITY--Mark O. Carlson, 55, Rapid City, died at the Rapid City Regional Hospital, Hospice House on Friday, April 4, 2008, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Mark was born April 28, 1952 to Marvin and Mata Carlson in Sisseton, SD. Mark moved with his family to Rapid City in 1964. He attended Canyon Lake Elementary, West Junior High and graduated from Stevens High School. He attended the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.. His employment included working for the railroad, Meadowbrook Golf Course and Rapid City Regional Hospital for the past 8 years. Mark enjoyed playing softball and darts. He also enjoyed playing baseball with his nephew Dylan. His nephews Dylan Watkins and Riley Black and niece, Kayla Black were the joy of his life. Survivors include his parents, Marvin and Mata Carlson, Rapid City and three sisters, LeAnn Faber and Renae Watkins and her husband, Michael, all of Rapid City and Cathy Black, and her husband Alec, of Arborfield, Saskatchewan, Canada. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Riley Black; Kayla Black; Dylan Watkins; Travis Watkins and his fiance, Bridget Bach and their daughter Brie; Stephanie Watkins and her daughter Alona and Shane and Shania Watkins. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and sister, Janice. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 PM,at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 9, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1631 Rushmore Street (behind Dairy Queen on Canyon Lake Drive.) Interment will be at the Mt. View Cemetery in Rapid City. A memorial has been established for the Rapid City Regional Hospital Cancer Institute.
