Marlene May Skie, 79, of Rapid City, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015, with her family lovingly keeping vigil at the Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House. She was born on November 27, 1935 in Eureka, SD to Gustave and Martha (Opp) Mettler. Marlene grew up on her families' farm in McPherson County, graduating from Eureka High School. She moved to Rapid City in 1956 and began working for Knechts Building Center as a book keeper. After a short stay in California, she returned to Rapid City, working at the First National Bank. Marlene married Maurice "Morrie" Skie on February 14, 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City. She and Morrie started Skie Construction, where she kept the company books. After Morries' death in 1985, Marlene began working for the Solar Sound Corporation. She was a past member of the Elks Club , bowling leagues and the Alpha Beta Sorority. Marlene enjoyed the outdoors and walking was a favorite past time. Marlene was known among her family as a champion Halusi (pigs in a blanket) cook, supplying large pans of it for the annual Mettler family Christmas dinner. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her brothers; Merle Mettler (Elsie), Rapid City, Stan Mettler ( Alice), Rapid City, Fred Mettler ( Lila), Rapid City, Richard Mettler (Carol), Rapid City, Van Mettler (Pam), Piedmont, Blake Mettler (Cathy), Rapid City, her sisters; Ramona Jackels, Rancho Cordoba, CA, Carol Jung (Lloyd), Piedmont, Vera Mettler, Rapid City and numerous nieces and nephews. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and an infant brother, Dwight. A memorial will be established to Hospice of the Hills A private family service will be held at a future date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
