Marvin L. Kahl, 84, of Rapid City, SD, passed away on March 31, 2025, at Fountain Springs Healthcare.

Marvin was born on November 4, 1940, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, where he grew up and attended high school. On January 1, 1961, he married Laurie Matzen, and together they shared over six decades of love and partnership. Marvin dedicated much of his career to serving as a federal meat inspector for the USDA, a job that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to service.

A longtime member of the Elks Club and Calvary Lutheran Church, Marvin was well-respected within his community. He had a passion for bowling, enjoying countless hours on the lanes with Laurie and competing in various leagues and tournaments. His love for collecting was evident in his extensive collection of coins, a hobby that sparked many conversations.

Though Marvin was often stoic with a dry sense of humor, those who knew him best understood the depth of his love and caring nature. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Marvin is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie Kahl; daughter, Marsha Fischer; son, Robert Kahl and his wife Barbara; and his brother, Ken Kahl and his wife Rollys. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5 at Calvary Lutheran Church.  A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service.  Burial will take place at Mountain View Cemetery.
