IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marvin George
Knuth
March 19, 1933 – January 6, 2024
Marvin George Knuth, 90, of Rapid City, South Dakota, entered eternal rest on Three Kings Day, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.
Marvin was born March 19, 1933, to Minnie (Poppe) and William Knuth on the family farm in Lake Belt Township, rural Dunnell, Minnesota. He attended District #45 Country School in Lake Belt Township. After graduating from Ceylon High School in 1952, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). He proudly served his country for 24 years, including tours in Korea and Vietnam.
After retiring from the USMC Reserve, Marvin drove a truck refueling homes for Cenex Propane and refueled and parked aircraft for WestJet. His last job was sorting USPS mail and shipping company packages at the Rapid City Airport. He knew which aircraft was approaching by the sound of the engines in the distance and had many stories of coyotes on the runway and a cat uprooting flowers from pots in the airport lobby.
In his younger days, Marvin loved to fish, hunt and trap. He often got in trouble because, after milking cows on the family farm, he would check his traps and be late for the school bus. Before residing in an adult living community, he enjoyed tinkering in his garage at his home in Rapid City, reloading ammunition for his sons and family friends. He loved his home and enjoyed his time there immensely with his wife Dee for many years. He was quiet until you got to know him, then he loved to reminisce about his time in the USMC and time with family. Some of his favorite memories were of his dog Boomer.
Marvin was a Life member of the VFW in Rapid City. He enjoyed their meals but was mostly honored to be part of the VFW Honor Guard, serving at military funerals at Black Hills National Cemetery. He also belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City.
Marvin is survived by his wife Delores (Dee) Knuth of Rapid City; sons: David (Sharon) Knuth of Adrian, MO, and Mark (Sandy) Knuth of Milton, DE; brothers and sisters: Fred Knuth of Chadron, NE, Harold (Elverna) Knuth of rural Dunnell, MN, Velma Christensen of Buffalo, MN, Gerri Knuth of Sioux Falls, SD, and Caroline Medina of Custer, SD; grandchildren: Cody (Laneah) Knuth, Kyle (Maddy) Knuth, Caelan Knuth, and Logan Knuth; five great-grandchildren; stepchildren: Randeen (Dave Langley) Damp of Broomfield, CO, Kim (Mel) Brewer of Mobridge, SD, and Destry (Jodie) Pleinis of NYA, MN; step-grandchildren: Hailee and Darren (Cassidy) Damp, Jesse, Grant and Alyssa Brewer, and Sarie (Josh) Maass and James (Ellen) Foltz; seven great-step-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ada Colvin and Lorrene Knuth, and brothers William "Bill" Knuth and Melvin Knuth.
A family viewing will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, January 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Kansas City St, Rapid City. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow. Burial with military honors will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery at 2 p.m. Rest in peace, Marvin. Semper Fi.
