GERMANTOWN, WIS: Mary B. (Barbara) Smith was born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey on March 15, 1928 to Mr. Stanley E. and Mrs. Mary (Wisham) Borden. Mary passed away on November 20, 2013 at Ellen's Home South Assisted Living in Germantown WI. She graduated with a degree from the University of Connecticut in 1949 as Registered Nurse. She spent the next six years in San Francisco CA. Barbara joined the US Air Force in 1956. Her duties sent her thru Europe, Puerto Rico (where she met Donald) and a tour in Vietnam. Barbara married Donald in 1969 in Illinois. She retired in 1976 from Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City SD as a Major. Barbara worked a volunteer at the Ellsworth Retiree Activities Office for many years where she published the quarterly newsletter for area retirees. She also worked in numerous other organizations in the area where she enjoyed helping other people. She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Smith, children from another marriage Darrell Smith, Susan Armstrong, and Steven (Sherry) Smith; two grandchildren Michelle Lipenski and Jenny Rodriguez and three great grandchildren. A Christian Wake Service will be held at Our Lady of the Black Hills Church, Piedmont SD at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at the church with Rev. Steve Biegler presiding. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery, near Sturgis with full military honors provided by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Barbara will be given to hospice.
