Obituary

Mary Jane Conrad, 83, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother; passed away suddenly May 31, 2025, at her home while gardening in Rapid City, SD.  Mary was born to George and Dorothy Czapskie on May 15, 1942, in Chamberlain, SD.  Her mom married Harold Rank and the family moved to Gillette, WY when she was 11 years old.  She graduated from Gillette High School in 1960. She moved to Rapid City, SD to attend business school.  There she met and married Arthur (Bruce) Conrad on June 6, 1964, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help where they were members for their 56 years of marriage.  She was currently still a member.  Mary was a stay-at-home mom and raised their five children, while being a babysitter for over 35 years, caring for and raising countless number of kids whose families became her family.  Mary enjoyed gardening, decorating cakes, baking, cooking, sewing and camping.  She was a Girl Scout leader for many years.  She was all about family and her grandkids, attending and supporting them in many activities. Mary and Bruce enjoyed many vacation trips and cruises they took throughout their years together.

Mary is survived by her sister Dorothy Karem of Dedham, MA; her brother George Czapskie of Rock Springs, WY; her five children; Deanne Church (Kevin), Mary Jo Peiman (James), both of Lincoln, NE; Daniel Conrad (Wendy), Christie Johnson (Al), and Amber Steen (Kane) of Rapid City.  She will be greatly missed and remembered by 16 grandchildren: Jakob, Kari, Alex, Ashton, Jackson, Angel, Molly, Mary Anne, Charles, George, Isabelle, Emma, Michael, Ella, Dexter and Brixton; six great grandchildren: Easton,

Leighton, Grayson. Louisa, Linus and Jenna; her furry companion Toby.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bruce; and great grandson Carson Peiman.

Visitation will be from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rosary Vigil beginning at 6:00 p.m. Christian funeral service will be offered at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Lunch to follow services at St. Joseph's Hall. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Bruce.
